Fort Dauphin Community & Spiny Forest

Combine lemur conservation in the unique spiny forest with genuine community development in the deep south.

Research Brief

The Anosy region holds the endemic-rich spiny forest and some of Madagascar's most pressing development challenges. Over four weeks, participants split their time between biodiversity monitoring, including the collared brown lemur, and community-led projects in health, education, and sustainable livelihoods, working directly with Malagasy partner organisations.

Field Activities

  • Spiny-forest botanical and lemur transects
  • Reptile and amphibian inventory work
  • Community construction & education projects
  • Sustainable livelihoods & fisheries support
  • Malagasy language and cultural immersion
